Roads to nowhere

OK, couldn’t resist one more post before hitting the road. Maps to me are like menus at fancy restaurants for others, I drool in anticipation. I like to find the roads to nowhere. However, all roads lead somewhere, even if … Continue reading

Surfing safari, Marin County

The quest for surf. This time in Marin County, up on the ridge with binoculars. Thinking about heading down to Bolinas.

sanluis-obispo-coastalt.jpg

Miles of the San Luis Obispo coast, lovely and uncrowded, once part of Hearst Ranch, now in the state park system. Taken from the top of the Piedra Blancas lighthouse. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Beside-Me-intimate-Californias/dp/0967252369/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358191884&sr=1-1&keywords=with+the+sea+beside+me

Brewhouse in Santa Barbara

This, I believe, is not affiliated with the Brewhouse chain. It’s a small, intimate place with excellent ales and wonderful food, and it’s two or three blocks from Santa Barbara’s main beach. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Beside-Me-intimate-Californias/dp/0967252369/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357678730&sr=1-1&keywords=with+the+sea+beside+me

Mother and Joey in SF

At the San Francisco Zoo, mother kangaroo and her little joey pose for the camera. There is lots to do in SF, but a couple hours at the zoo is a nice diversion. http://www.amazon.com/With-Sea-Beside-Me-Californias/dp/0967252369/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357235545&sr=8-1&keywords=with+the+sea+beside+me

Moss Landing Sunset

Moss Landing, at the center of Monterey Bay, is one of my favorite communities, with great surf, excellent seafood restaurants, a cool harbor and fun kayaking. Walking the beach at Sunset is a joyful experience. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Beside-Me-intimate-Californias/dp/0967252369/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357148712&sr=1-1&keywords=with+the+sea+beside+me

Pfeiffer Beach

Take a narrow, two mile drive down to one of the most scenic beaches on the Big Sur coast. Used to be free, but now, like so many places, you have to pay to park. However, it is scenic, and … Continue reading

B Bryan Preserve

No, I wasn’t visiting Africa, rather Point Arena, CA. The B Bryan Preserve protects endangered African hoofed animals. This is probably one of the most interesting places I’ve ever stayed. Find out in Ch8, With the Sea Beside Me: An … Continue reading
